A Growing Cross-Canada Coalition for Democratic Accountability & Peaceful Change
IceOutOf.ca was launched as a collaborative grassroots initiative by Indivisible Québec, Indivisible Vancouver, and Indivisible Ottawa — Canadian chapters connected through the wider Indivisible Abroad and Indivisible.org movement networks.
Across Canada and around the world, Indivisible chapters are made up of ordinary people who are committed to protecting and defending democracy, human dignity, and civil liberties. We demonstrate these commitments via peaceful civic engagement and non-violent action.
We have watched the disintegration of democratic norms, civil rights protections, and humanitarian standards across the United States with increasing alarm. Simultaneously, we have become aware of a number of Canadian institutions that support and profit from ICE and HSI operations. Given the choice, we would not have consented to having our tax dollars support detention systems, family separations, aggressive raids, deportations, deaths in custody, or other widely documented human rights abuses associated with ICE operations.
Our country must always strive to uphold democratic values, sovereignty, accountability, and respect for human rights.
In solidarity with our sister Indivisible chapters across the United States and around the world, we decided to organize peacefully, democratically, and transparently to begin helping “right those wrongs” through public awareness campaigns, lawful & peaceful demonstrations, democratic pressure, and citizen engagement.
This initiative — House of Commons Petition E-7319 — is a democratic call upon the Government of Canada to take immediate and meaningful action to defend Canadian sovereignty, civil liberties, and human rights by demanding the complete removal of ICE and HSI operational activities from Canada, including those conducted through American consular facilities on Canadian soil.
Further, Canadians call upon the federal government to make unequivocally clear that no present or future agreements, arrangements, authorizations will be entered into that would permit ICE, HSI, or any other foreign U.S. federal enforcement agency to exercise operational, intelligence-gathering, or detention-support within Canada.
Finally, we also call on the federal government to implement fiscal measures discouraging Canadian companies from supporting or facilitating ICE operations, and to ensure that Canadian public funds are not directed toward corporations whose activities contribute to practices that run contrary to our democratic, humanitarian, and ethical values we hold dear.
Inspired by the legacy and words of John Lewis, we create “good trouble” — peaceful, principled, non-violent action taken in defense of justice, democracy, and civil rights.
We believe citizens have both the right and the responsibility to speak out against injustice, challenge harmful systems, and hold institutions accountable through lawful civic engagement, public education, democratic pressure, peaceful protest, and compassionate community organizing.
We are committed to:
peaceful protest.democratic accountability.defending Canadian sovereignty. &protecting civil liberties and human dignity.
Ordinary people working together can still create meaningful change.
Collaboration & Coalition Building
Together, We Remain Indivisible
No single organization, chapter, or movement can tackle these issues alone.
